V Australia announced it has entered into a ticketing partnership with Northwest Airlines to offer travellers access to destinations across the US and Canada. V Australia’s ticketing partnership with Northwest will take effect from day one of the launch of V Australia services on 15-Dec-08.

Delta Air Lines launched its inaugural service to China with a non-stop service between Atlanta and Shanghai. With the new route, customers flying to or from 47 of the more than 240 destinations served by Delta Air Lines non-stop from Atlanta will gain their first online one-stop connections to Shanghai.

Aloha Airlines announced it will be shutting down its inter-island and transpacific passenger services after 31-Mar-08, its last day of operations. On 31-Mar-08, Aloha Airlines will operate its schedule with the exception of services from Hawaii to the West Coast and from Orange County to Reno and Sacramento, and Oakland to Las Vegas. Effective immediately, Aloha will stop selling tickets for travel beyond 31-Mar-08.

Northwest Airlines announced it is offering cash back into customer PayPal accounts when they purchase a ticket at Northwest’s website using PayPal for payment. This is an extension of Northwest Airlines’ partnership with PayPal, after Northwest Airlines became the first airline to work with the on-line payment system in 2007.

Northwest Airlines announced changes to its luggage policies for coach class customers travelling within North America. For coach class travel on or after 05-May-08, Northwest Airlines will be implementing a USD25 charge for the customer’s second checked bag. The fee is applied each way. Coach class customers may continue to check one piece of luggage free of charge.

American Airlines announced it is re-inspecting its fleet of MD-80s to make sure the wiring is installed and secured exactly according to FAA directives. The announcement comes as the FAA increased its auditing of maintenance records of all airlines. During the audit of American Airlines, a joint team of AA and FAA inspectors raised questions regarding an already accomplished directive concerning how a certain bundle of wires is secured to the MD-80 aircraft.

Continental Airlines, Boeing and GE Aviation announced plans to conduct a sustainable biofuels flight demonstration in 1H09 in an effort to identify sustainable fuel solutions for the aviation industry. The biofuel flight will use a Boeing Next-Generation 737 equipped with CFM International CFM56-7B engines.

US Airways and Rolls-Royce has signed an engines agreement for Trent 700 engines to power up to 30 Airbus A330-200 twinjets. The agreement is valued at approximately USD2 billion and includes two long-term TotalCare services agreements for US Airways’ Trent 700 and RB211 engine fleets. The A330 order comprises engines for 15 firm and up to 15 additional aircraft.
