Mexicana inaugurated (19-Jan-09) its first transatlantic flight on the Mexico City-London route. The new service to London’s Gatwick airport forms part of the company’s expansion and growth plans.
Two flights a week will initially be available on the new route, departing from Mexico City on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 2:30 p.m. and arriving at London’s Gatwick airport at 7:25 a.m. the following day. Return flights will leave London at 10:30 a.m. on Thursdays and Sundays and arrive in Mexico at 5:30 p.m. the following day.
As of 17-Feb-09, two additional flights will be available, departing from Mexico City on Tuesdays and Fridays and returning on Wednesdays and Saturdays at the aforementioned times. These flights will be operated with B767-200 aircraft that can seat up to 156 passengers.
According to Mexicana CEO Manuel Borja, “Here at Mexicana, we firmly believe that adversity can be overcome only with hard work and perseverance. In these times of economic turbulence, we have opted to offset adverse industry conditions by offering quality services. We understand that it’s not just a question of getting our passengers from A to B, but of getting them there as comfortably and efficiently as possible, and the best example of this new philosophy is our long-haul routes.”
Borja added,”The decision to fly to London reaffirms our commitment to our passengers and illustrates how Mexicana is taking steps to address the challenges posed by the airline industry. It also positions us as an innovative international airline, concerned about the development and consolidation of the commercial aviation industry.”
